Biography

Grew up in East Africa and Scotland, studied Computer Science at the University of York.
Has lived in Belgium since 1984, working as a software architect, helping firms build large software applications.
Started his company iMatix Corporation in 1998.
His particular skills are to design very large software systems and to communicate complex ideas clearly.
Main works include the Xitami web server, and other iMatix software technology tools.
In 2004-6, was principal architect of the new AMQP middleware standard and main developer of the OpenAMQ middleware server.
In 2005, was elected president of the FFII, the association representing small-to-medium IT firms at the European level.
In 2006, launched the CAPSoff campaign as an example of 'wikiturfing'; running a grassroots campaign using only free internet tools.
In his copious free time he writes, plays guitar, spends time with his beautiful wife & daughter, and enjoys Brussels.
Is a member of Mensa, Rotary International, and the FFII.
